Power Rake
Power raking is the process of cutting swathes into the dead material of lawns to remove dead grass so the soil can breathe and the grass can grow more efficiently. Thatch is the build-up of grass clippings and other debris that accumulate in the area between the soil surface and the blades of grass. Some thatch can be beneficial by helping retainig moisture. However, build-up of more than 1/4″ of thatch can prevent water, air and nutrients from reaching the soil and roots. Furthurmore, is can harbor pests and create conditions that promote disease.
Power Raking is often accompanied by re-seeding and fertilizing. TTis is usually necessary to replace the lawn matter torn out by the process. When power raking, re-seeding gives the lawn new growth and promotes overall health.
